I never dreamed that I would enjoy a book about horses. The author however captivated my attention from the opening chapter. I was drawn in by the great human interest story of Michael a homeless boy from the inner city of Detroit who ends up living on a farm in rural Tennessee with a forgotten champion horse.The story is so compelling that it pulls you in like a John Grisham mystery novel. Loved this book! Brenda mixes humor,faith and family all together to create this heartwarming story. Very talented writer. Hope to hear more from her!
A troubled boy from the city, hardened by years in foster care, is taken in by relatives in the country. A troubled barrel-racing horse, hardened by years of hard handling and abuse, is taken in by a young woman. These two story lines intertwine, and the two characters come together in a story of redemption, love, patience, and faith-- with quite a bit of humor thrown in also. The author's style is so easy to read, I really enjoyed it.
THE BEST book I have ever read. I read A LOT. This book is great for all ages. Really makes you think about your own life and how lucky I am.
Now since Mary O'Hara's "My Friend Flicka" trilogy, has there been a more realistic and heartwarming novel about life, love, and the magnificent animals that help teach us how to experience the abundance that life offers. I have thoroughly enjoyed Ms. Dawson's book. I eagerly await her next.
Running for home is an excellent book for children in middle school. Even though I am not a horse lover, I loved this book! I was impressed with the quantity of information about horses. It is a heartwarming story about earning trust and finding friendship.
Brenda Dawson did a great job of bringing a troubled kid, a horse, and God all together.

What a wonderful book. Ms. Dawson combines faith, laugh out loud humor, along with believable characters resulting in a delightful story. I am looking forward to her next novel.
