Devastated by the loss of his older brother, teenaged Jared Weiss dons a mask and cape in pursuit of vengeance. He becomes The Paladin. Unfortunately, the real world isn't like the pages of a comic book, and wherever The Paladin goes, disaster is never far behind. Will Jared be able to avenge his brother before he winds up in a grave beside him?

Kevin G. Summers’ “The Paladin” really stands out as worthy of note. The story focuses on a teenage boy who has no powers and decides to don a homemade style Batman suit to avenge his brother’s death and rid his city of drug dealers. It’s a fantasy every comic fan can relate to as well as a deeply emotional tale of a young man’s struggle to find himself and his place in the world. The story is also full of references to everything from characters like Green Arrow and Nightwing to Dungeons and Dragons making it an even more fun read if you’re a geek yourself. Above all though, the story stays true to real life and evokes a great deal of sympathy for its protagonist."

The Paladin eBook Kevin G Summers

Kevin G. Summers strikes just the right balance between teenage angst and the deeper moral questions of our time. I know that is quite a summation for a comic-book-themed story. But then, really, aren’t all comic book heroes constantly wrestling with their lot in a broken and cruel world. So, too, Summers’ protagonist, a 14-year-old struggling with the death of his idolized older brother. He takes on the evil of his community to avenge his brother, falls in love and in the process learns a great deal about himself. This is a well written short story worthy of a second read -- or as a gift to any young boy coming of age in this world of sorrow and conflict. It is a timeless story told well. Two thumbs up!

The Paladin eBook Kevin G Summers Reviews

I absolutely loved the pairing of these 2 stories. One story The Paladin is about a mixed-up kid still hurting from his brothers murder and who wants to make the world right, cause the cops certainly aren't doing it and with a little creative vigilantism he's looking for a way to get even. His plan make himself a hero just like in the comic books! Come on I'm not gonna tell you what happens get the book!
Plus bonus, the second story is about finding a rare comic book and what happens. So much fun! Seriously!
I won the audio book from another authors giveaway, so I had no idea what to expect from this book or the author. Both stories were quite enjoyable and entertaining. I was very pleased with the author and his ability to write a wonderfully descriptive story that can be enjoyed by adults and young adults alike. I think if he were to remove the swear words in it, and some suggestive situations, he would be able to appeal to older teens as well. I like the fact that both books convey a sense of a lesson learned, and show that you do not have to stoop to the level of the world around you to achieve a favorable outcome. Unfortunately, I see this less and less the more I read.
A great story about a teenager who read comics pertaining to Batman. These heroes who inspire him to become one. Read it!!!
This story brings out what so many young men dream of - the chance to act on our angst and confusion.
The Paladin is a worthy read for its adventure and fun, but I recommend it even more for the young adults fighting through their own tragedy or setback. It is nice when a fairly quaint short story can push all the right buttons.
I recently read the Bell Curse by Kevin G. Summers and loved it, so I thought I'd give another of his stories a read. This one hit home with me cause I'm a big comic book fan. If you are into comics, or even just a huge Batman fan like me, this is a well written story about a boy who copes with the loss of his brother by trying to avenge his death. A FUN FUN read.
I found out about Kevin Summers through the book he wrote with Michael Bunker called Legendarium. I have found so many good authors in the indie world and Kevin Summers is one of them. This story grabbed me from the beginning and had me wanting to turn the page to find out what was going to happen. This is a short story and could be read in a short amount of time, but is still enjoyable. Maybe one day The Paladin will have another adventure.
The Paladin really got to me. I felt like crying before I got to page three. This is a wonderful story about a teenage boy who is hurting after the brother he idolized is murdered. In the last few years my teenage children have lost several classmates to suicide, car accidents, and drugs, and we live in a really nice community! I am familiar with the pain that comes from a young life taken from this earth too soon. I could empathize with the character Jared, knowing how close my boys are to each other.

I loved the idea of a teenage boy wanting to be a "superhero" and going after the thugs who killed his brother. Who wouldn't want to do that? Things don't quite go as planned, and Jared's life takes a little turn in a different direction. This is a story that will leave you with a good feeling at the end, and I am so glad I came across this treasure.
